We attended the CBA Legal Conference in St. John's this summer as an exhibitor showcasing your website, www.processserverscanada.com, and your print directory, Canada's Legal Support Directory. We had a wonderful reception and met many legal professionals, which was delightful, and made new business friends from across the country. The conference was the best, from the opening night on Signal Hill, where the first telegraph was sent, to watching the Military Tattoo, visiting the amazing Geo Center and finally watching the sun go down over the million dollar harbour view, at The Battery Hotel. Not to be forgotten!
There was also some time to see St. John's, Water Steet and famous George Street. We were invited to go aboard the schooner Shandithi for a harbour tour, complete with Celtic music, of course, which we loved! And what a wonderful party hosted by well known law firm, McKelvey Stewart Sterling Scales on Harbour Drive. Such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere - and so much fun meeting new legal professionals and their families. If we ever had any doubts about attending conferences, this ended them once and for all!

We spent a day at the St. John's Superior and Family Law Courts where we presented our newest directory at the front counter & reception. We were told that it is used extensively there. We also placed Canada's Legal Support Directory in other areas of the court house, and met with the sheriff and deputy sheriff; then visited the historic Supreme Court building itself, which is very beautiful, with old oak walls and seating. Everywhere conference attendees were enjoying themselves. The people of St. John's made us all feel welcome! How else could we have met so many legal professionals, and enjoyed their company so much?
After attending the conference, we drove north to meet Don of Don Brett & Associates, a legal support service company, and a Lormit Process Server. What a lovely place Botwood and area is, on the sea, and yet inland. Don took us to a great restaurant, The Dockside, where we had the best dinner of local, fresh cod fish! And it was so wonderful to actually meet one of our Karma Publications' clients - and friends! Don was a lovely man and a great person to spend an evening with. We really enjoyed our stay in Botwood! Thank you, Don!
After the conference, we saw, Come By Chance, the smallest settlement ever, and friendly local shop owners, who allowed us into their home. On the way we visited gentle, grassy Terra Nova Provincial Park and drove through the wild and entrancing Gros Morne Park, a UNESCO site, with its red rocks and most unusual prehistoric, tablelands. While driving the Viking Trail we saw moose, a bear and the most amazing small fishing villages, amongst them Cows Head, Noddy Bay, Gunners Cover, and St. Anthony, at the most northern tip, close to and with ferry services to Labrador nearby.
We finally reached L'Anse Aux Meadows, a National Historic Site, where the first Europeans set foot on North American land and settled, and where the first iron forge in the new world - and the first European baby, Snorry, was born, The replicated Viking Village is most interesting as is the small but iinformative museum .
Gunners Cove was also of great interest as we were very fortunate, indeed, to stay in the former home of Annie Proulx, author of the The Shipping News. She wrote her book, which was also made into a movie, at Valhalla Lodge. While at the nearby Norseman Restaurant, we enjoyed dinner and a theatrical performance. The cod and "scrunchins" with hardtack, followed by Partridge Berry Dessert was delicious, and unique to the area. Gina and her husband, the staff and local entertainers, at the Norseman were exceptional performers. Stories from the past were re-enacted of the early Norse people and the tales from today's Newfoundland were just as enthralling. At the end of the evening the visitors gathered in a circle to hear stories and be Screached In! Kissing the cod fish on the mouth makes you an honorable Newfoundlander!
All I can say is visit this amazingly unique and unspoiled area, with its pristine air, stunning scenery, celtic music and crafts, and truly friendly people. As Victorians and true "westcoasters", we were completely overtaken by all that Newfoundland had to offer - and the few days we were there, were just not enough!
Having attended the fabulous CBA Conference for you all and with you all in our minds, I was so pleased to have travelled over 3000 miles there, and back! to showcase our directory services. And to have also discovered another part of my personal heritage, in honour of my Norweigian grandfather and mother, Hilda. This trip was meant to be: and meant so much to me.
This August we will be in Calgary, Alberta, and we look forward to meeting more legal professionals and seeing Alberta, another jewel of Canada, and another adventure! We continue to work hard for all of you.
